Inspired by the current story arc of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, a talented fan shares their Nefertari Vivi cosplay.
The creation of Reddit user Petra, the costume spotlights the princess’s signature light blue hair and features an appropriately regal dress. One of the pictures that the cosplayer uploaded on Reddit includes an adorable plush version of Vivi’s spot-billed duck companion, Karoo.
Vivi’s History in One Piece
Introduced as one of the primary antagonists during the Reverse Mountain Arc, Vivi eventually reveals to Straw Hat Pirates that she infiltrated the villainous organization Baroque Works and recruits Luffy and his pirate crew to help her save her country, Arabasta. She ultimately decides to remain behind to help her kingdom rebuild after the defeat the saga’s main villain, Sir Crocodile. However, since the latest chapters of Oda’s manga have returned focus to the blue-haired princess, many fans and readers have speculated that she will soon take her rightful place as the final official member of the Straw Hat Pirates.
Vivi isn’t the only member of the Nefertari family who had recently inspired interesting fan theories; information about one of her ancestors — Lily, the queen who ruled over Arabasta 800 years before the main story — became the focus of some speculation after the events of Chapter 1084, “The Attempted Murder of a Celestial Dragon.” A few individuals have proposed that the ancient monarch may have founded the jungle nation of Amazon Lily.
Oda has confirmed that One Piece has entered its final saga but also reassured fans that the narrative won’t actually end anytime soon. Because the epic’s conclusion is drawing ever closer, theories about the many remaining mysteries have started to crop up with greater and greater frequency. In particular, Shanks, the captain of the Red-Haired Pirates and the individual who gave Luffy his signature straw hat, has been a popular focus. For example, one theory argues the upsetting possibility that the Emperor may actually be a Holly Knight of Mary Geoise, a devoted fighter in the service of the Celestial Dragons.
One Piece’s Creator Debunks Theories
Notably, Oda has already debunked one of the major theories within the fandom. The mangaka firmly stated that the titular treasure would not be the friendships Luffy made on his journey. “One Piece is not a ‘bond of Straw Hats,'” he explained. “I hate that kind of thing.”
VIZ Media distributes Oda’s manga series in North America. Toei Animation’s anime adaptation is available on Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll.
